2019 Scholarship WInner

July 24, 2019

This year’s recipient is Wesley Crockett from Rusk, Texas. Wesley’s application was sponsored by Charlene Crockett. Charlene is an employee at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Wesley graduated in 2018 from Fort Stockton High School where she was Valedictorian. She is pursuing a degree in Political Science with a minor in Spanish at Bethany College in West Virginia.

Wesley exemplifies both academic excellence and community leadership. Before even enrolling at Bethany, Wesley had already accumulated 33 hours of college credit, which is allowing her to graduate in three years rather than four. While carrying a heavy course load of advanced courses in her first year of college, she played for the varsity tennis team, volunteered her time helping to conduct free youth tennis clinics, assisted in the Bethany Cheer Clinic, and participated in Earth Day litter clean-ups. As you can see, Wesley does not have much free time!

After college, Wesley is planning to attend law school. Then, she says, “I plan to come back to Texas and get a job within the field I studied, hoping that it will be at a state law firm or state political office.” It is wonderful to see such a fine young person already thinking about public service.
